Mrs. Erin Speak grew up in Baltimore. She graduated from Elizabethtown College in Pennsylvania in 1997 with a BS in Mathematics and minor in Music. She spent 8 years teaching in Baltimore, where she directed theater and coached tennis. In 2005, she decided she needed to be closer to the mountains and moved to Hagerstown. She taught at South Hagerstown for 4 years, where she also coached tennis. During her stay there, she also was very excited to begin working on a curriculum writing committee for BISFA. She was very excited to be selected to help open the school in 2009 and has taught here every since. In her spare time, she enjoys hiking and camping with her husband. She also loves to bake, work in her garden, and take yoga classes.
Mrs. Erin Gentzel, originally from Gaithersburg, Maryland, joined Barbara Ingram in 2015. She has been teaching mathematics in Washington County for the last ten years, spending time at South Hagerstown High School and Antietam Academy and previously in Montgomery County, Maryland. Beyond the field of education Mrs. Gentzel was an accountant in Washington, D.C. for PricewaterhouseCoopers working in the field of Assurance and Advisory with clients throughout D.C. and Europe.
Mrs. Gentzel attended University of New Orleans, graduating with a BA in Education. While at University of New Orleans she ran cross-country and track. She is still actively running, recently completing her second marathon and twentieth half marathon. Mrs. Gentzel is an active member of Girls on the Run of Washington County. Her husband Dave and their two kids are equally active. Dave is a teacher with twenty years experience working for MCPS. He was a rugby player in Frederick, MD and is an avid mountain biker and sometimes runner. Her kids Cora and Luke attend Old Forge Elementary and play soccer, football, basketball, baseball, softball, swimming, lacrosse, mountain biking, running, triathlons and sometimes just being kids. If Mrs. Gentzel isn’t at school or home grading papers you will find her on the sidelines of her kids events or running on the roads of Smithsburg, Maryland.
